Every semester, lots of UC students leave Cincinnati for co-op, study abroad or graduation, and someone has to fill their room. A sublease lets you rent that room for just the months you need, often furnished and close to campus, without signing a full-year lease.

How subleasing works at UC

The student who holds the lease (the subletter) rents their room to you for part of the lease. They stay responsible to the landlord; you pay them, or the landlord directly if that's the arrangement. Most UC subleases line up with semesters:

SemesterDatesWhen rooms get posted
Spring 2027Jan 11 – May 1, 2027October to early December
Summer 2027May 10 – Aug 7, 2027February to April
Fall 2026Aug 24 – Dec 12, 2026April to June

Finding a sublease

  • Filter the board by semester, budget and neighborhood, and save the ones you like.
  • Message the poster on CampusCribs. Ask for a live video tour if you can't visit.
  • Confirm the landlord allows the sublet, and get a written sublease before paying anything.
  • Pay with a method you can dispute, never gift cards, crypto or wire transfers.

FAQ

Can I sublease my apartment near UC?
Usually, if your lease allows it. Check the sublet clause, then ask your landlord or property manager in writing. Many landlords near campus allow subletting because so many UC students leave for co-op.
When should I post my sublease?
About 2 to 3 months before you leave. For a spring co-op (UC's Spring 2027 semester runs January 11 to May 1), post from October to early December, before many students leave for winter break.
How much should I charge for my sublet?
Most students charge their own rent or a little less to fill the room faster. Look at what similar rooms near you are listed for and price to move: an empty room still costs you the full rent.
Do I need a written sublease agreement in Ohio?
You should always have one. Put the dates, rent, deposit, who pays utilities and what happens if something goes wrong in writing, signed by both of you, and keep your landlord's written OK with it.
Is it free to post a sublease on CampusCribs?
Yes. Posting and browsing are free. UC students message you right on the site, so you don't have to share your number.
