After freshman year most UC students move off campus, into the neighborhoods around Main Campus and the Medical Campus. The rooms open on CampusCribs come from other UC students (subleases while they're on co-op or abroad, rooms in shared houses, lease takeovers) and from landlords our team has approved.

The kinds of places you'll find

  • Sublease: someone's room for part of their lease, often one semester while they're on co-op. Usually furnished, with roommates already living there.
  • Lease takeover: the lease moves to you for the rest of its term, usually with the landlord's approval.
  • Room open: a room in a shared house or apartment where the other roommates are staying.
  • Whole place: a whole house or apartment from a landlord, rented by a group that splits the rent, typically for the school year starting in August. Landlords also lease single rooms on their own.

When to look

UC's co-op calendar sets the rhythm. Students leave and come back every semester, so rooms open up all year, not only in August.

Rent safely

Rental scams show up in student housing groups every semester. Never pay before you've seen the place (in person or on a live video call) and signed a written agreement, and don't pay with gift cards, crypto or wire transfers. Read how to spot a fake sublet before you send money.

FAQ

Where do most UC students live off campus?
Most live in Clifton Heights (CUF), the closest neighborhood, about a 2 to 10 minute walk to Main Campus; in Corryville by Short Vine and the Medical Campus, 5 to 15 minutes away; or in Clifton around Ludlow Ave, 10 to 20 minutes away. Fairview and Mt. Auburn are a little farther and usually cheaper.
When should I start looking for off-campus housing at UC?
For a full-year lease starting in August, start in the fall before: houses near campus often sign a year ahead. For a single semester, look 2 to 3 months before you move in. Spring rooms open up in October and November as students confirm spring co-ops.
What's the difference between a sublease and a lease takeover?
In a sublease you rent someone's room for part of their lease (often a semester while they're on co-op) and they stay on the lease. In a lease takeover the lease moves to you for the rest of its term, usually with the landlord's approval.
Is CampusCribs part of the University of Cincinnati?
No. CampusCribs is an independent housing site for UC students. For on-campus housing (residence halls), use UC Housing directly.
How do I avoid rental scams near UC?
Don't pay anything before you've seen the place, in person or on a live video call, and signed a written agreement. Be careful with prices far below similar places, with people who can't show you the unit, and with requests for gift cards, crypto or wire transfers.
