List your sublet as soon as your co-op offer is signed. The people who'll take your room are searching for their own housing on the same calendar you are, and the good rooms go first.
UC co-op students alternate semesters of class with semesters of paid work (UC News). Your sublet needs to cover the semester you're gone, from the day you leave until the day you return. (New to subleasing? Start with how to sublease your apartment for co-op.)

Your sublet checklist, working back from the day you leave
- Co-op offer accepted. Read your lease's sublet clause the same day.
- About 3 months out: Email your landlord for written permission. Tell your roommates.
- About 10–12 weeks out: List the room. Use real photos, exact dates, rent, and what's included.
- About 6–8 weeks out: Screen applicants and video-call your top picks.
- About 4 weeks out: Sign a written sublease and collect the deposit and first month's rent.
- Your last week: Take move-out photos, switch utilities, and hand off keys.
- When you're back: Do a joint walkthrough, and settle any damage or utility balances in writing.
Spring co-op: the busiest sublet season
Spring is the easiest semester to find someone and the most competitive to list in. Students coming back from fall co-op need a January move-in. If your spring co-op is confirmed in the fall, list before finals week. After that, many people searching have already left Cincinnati for the break.
Summer co-op: your best renters are interns
The Cincinnati area is home to large employers that hire summer interns, including Procter & Gamble, Kroger and GE Aerospace. Interns need a furnished room for about 12 weeks and usually start looking in spring. Mention furniture, the walk or shuttle to campus, and bus access. UC's free Metro pass is for eligible UC students, faculty and staff (UC News), not outside interns, so don't advertise free transit to non-students.
Fall co-op: plan around August turnover
Many leases near campus turn over in summer, so August is crowded with move-ins. Students looking for fall-only housing start early to avoid signing a full year. If you're on the other side of this and need a room yourself, see how to find a short-term sublet near UC.
